More people are coming forward looking to give to help families with medical debt, and have now helped KIRO 7 eliminate more than $5 million in medical debt for people in Western Washington.
Last month, KIRO spent $12,000 dollars and forgave more than a million dollars in medical debt. Since our original report aired, people across the state have stepped up and donated to help those in need.
As of Wednesday morning, viewers donated more than $40,000 dollars to the cause, which is allowing RIP Medical Debt to buy and forgive millions of dollars worth of medical debt for the people of Western Washington on KIRO’s behalf.
Thanks to your generous donations, thousands more people will be getting letters in yellow envelopes letting them know their debt has been bought and forgiven. The letters will come from RIP Medical Debt, which is the company we worked with throughout this process. The new set of letters will go out next week. We do not know who is getting relief, so it could cover just one doctor’s visit or one test. If you receive a letter from KIRO 7, please contact us.
We would love to hear your story.
KIRO 7 would like to thank each of the hundreds of people who donated to the cause and helped make a difference in the lives of thousands of people in Western Washington.
